Caught Between Adventures
Well, it's been a few days since I've written; that's because I was in Minnesota having a grand old time with the family and setting off bottle rockets left and right. Man I love fireworks ^_^
It was quite the adventure; I started by landing in MSP (Minneapolis/Saint Paul) airport and meeting Dad and the younger of my sisters there, then we braved the hectic traffic north to the Brainerd area to get the elder of my sisters from the camp at which she is a counselor this summer. Ah, such nostalgia! (My family had made a few trips there about 12 years ago) It was really kind of weird; I could remember all the stuff, generally, but I had pretty much no concept for where everything was in relation to everything else. The last time I had been there, I guess I didn't really bother learning where things were; it was just, "Oh, we're on the beach now, okay now we're walking, hey, we're at our cabin now!" That, or the memory has just faded with time... but otherwise many memories of it are very sharp, too--right down to the "secret passage" between two of the lakes that we canoed on--it was a lot of fun being able to canoe on them again ^_^
After that, we proceeded to drive to the family reunion on the far side of the state--just over the South Dakota (ah land of my birth!) border. It was great getting to see all the relatives again, but waaaay too short. Especially considering how many relatives I have. To really catch up with all of them, I'd need closer to a week as opposed to a day or two. Regardless, it was good to see all of them, and yes, shooting off fireworks was quite literally the bomb.
After that, I drove back home with Mom and the younger of my brothers. We got to listen to the Smothers Brothers' version of Aesop's Fables (another blast from my past, heehee) and in general it was a good drive. We hit a thunderstorm for the last 45 minutes of the trip or so (just after I had switched with Mom so she was driving again) but other than that it was uneventful.
Then yesterday we went shopping for my younger brother's birthday. That is one lucky kid; I got him Metroid: Zero Mission and he got some pretty keen presents from everyone else too. Wish I would have gotten a chance to play it; guess I'll just have to get my own! Then I flew home, almost got sick on the flights, got to spend way more time on the plane than I really would have liked thanks to storm delay ground-stops, got back around 11:00, got picked up by my good buddy who lives to the south, and spent the night at his place.
Up again this morning at 6:00 AM (so I'd say I'm holding together pretty well) to face the morning rush. I swear that's the last time I'm going to ever drive inbound on I-66, HOV or no. We managed to take off around 6:30 or maybe a little before, and I got into work just around 8:30. Next time I'm taking the VRE.
Tomorrow evening I'm either going to be heading back to my friends' in the south, or trying to crash with my friends here in the city because, guess what, I've got another flight on Friday morning at like oh-dark-thirty! Whee! This time I'm off to St. Louis to see two of my best friends from college sanctify their unholy union (love you both! O:) *sniff* I'm so proud! It's hard to say which of us corrupted the others more... probably them corrupting me, for which I'm very grateful. My world would just not be the same had I not seen (almost all of) Silent Moebius or those seasons of Ranma 1/2. Arigato Gozaimasu~!!! Omedetou~~~!!!^_^
Then I get back on Sunday for a few weeks of recuperation before Otakon... Muahahahahaaaaaa!!! Must... see... Hellsing...!!!
