Leafing Through Poetry

I invite you to
Pause
For just a moment
And observe
A leaf.

Perhaps your leaf is green
Emerald green
With lighter veins
Tracing, lacing delicately across it
A network of life

Perhaps your leaf is brown
Brittle and wrinkled and bro
ken
The lacy veins torn and collapsed
Their network destoryed

Perhaps your leaf is gold
A letter on a book
Or in a
s
c
r
o
l
l
of calligraphy

Perhaps your leaf is white
Like snow
Pristine and untouched
Awaiting someone's hand to give it form
From its uniformity

Or perhaps it has already been
Molded
Impressed upon
By ink
Or graphite
Or wax
By someone leaving a copy
Of a little piece of their heart
So they could share it
With you
