Lots and lots of walking later...
Hehe, okay, so I'm back now ^_^ It went very well. First I took the Metro to Huntington, then had to walk from there to the apartment complex because I didn't have an ID yet so I couldn't use the shuttle bus. However, it's only about an 8 minute hike, so really not that bad and the weather was nice. Anyway, I got there and filled out the rest of the paperwork (and I need to call Verizon up and see what's going on with my phone because I have a confirmation e-mail that they got my order but nothing else, and they were supposed to hook it up today, so... yeah. Will be calling them as soon as I finish this ;) After I got the paperwork done they gave me a little ID card so I can use the bus and such, and a bigger ID card so I can get into buildings, through the entrance, etc.
Then it was time for more walking--the apartment walkthrough! The moment at which I first laid eyes upon the actual space that is to be my home for the next year or longer. My first impression was, "Hey! It's backwards!" ;) The model apartment that I had toured when I was looking for a new place to live had the same layout, only the living space was to the right of the entrance and the bed and bathrooms were to the left--in mine, it's the other way around. My second thought was, "Wow, it's bigger than I remembered!" About a week ago I had been looking through the brochure they had given me, and noticed that it was like 800-something square feet, or about twice as big as the last apartment I had. That didn't seem right, given my remembering of the space that I had looked at for this new place. However, having been back and seen it again, it really does seem about twice as big. The trick is going to be figuring out how to use the space well ;) (this corner for the entertainment system and video game consoles, this corner for the computer, this chunk of wall for the electronics workbench... O:)
Anyway, after that I caught the shuttle bus back to the metro (behold the might of the ID card!) and ended up going and looking around at stuff for the apartment (I'm getting furniture tomorrow, but there's other stuff I need too... dishes, for example, pots and pans, etc.) I got a shower curtain that I really liked, so that's one less thing that I'll need to pick up later. Then I came the rest of the way back to the Medical Center stop and walked home because I didn't have enough money for the metro bus fare and I didn't feel like waiting for it anyway. So yeah, now I'm resting and enjoying the feeling of knowing that hey, it might be bare and empty right now, but I have a new place to call home.
Packing to continue shortly ;)
