Loose Ends
Sep. 21st, 2004 10:13 pmWell, with the main moving stuff taken care of, I've spent yesterday and today tying up two very important loose ends. Yesterday I had to take the afternoon off work so I could be here in case Verizon needed to get into my apartment because my phone wasn't working. I had developed a severe headache by the time I got home (I suspect migrane--food made me nauseous, and even glancing over at the window with the blinds down made me feel like I was being stabbed between the eyes with a blunt object, a sort of sharp thudding pain, and the residual smoke that had seeped into pretty much everything I own--which I could never really tell when I was living at the old place because there was fresh smoke to mask it--about did me in.) So between all these factors I pretty much spent the afternoon lying on one of the livingroom futons alternatively wishing I was unconscious and struggling to stay awake because I didn't want to miss the technician if one came. Finally around 5 I picked up the phone again and, lo and behold, dialtone! I don't know if the technician ever came or if some magical force just caused it to start working or if I had it hooked up poorly before or what, but my phone now works! ^_^
By that time I was feeling a bit better, so I went over to the convenience store and got myself some food. Then I came back, unpacked a few things and set up the computer, and spent the rest of the evening playing Legend of the Dragoon which is so far a very fun game--it's been too long since I played a good RPG :-D
Then today at work I checked on the Verizon site and got the very good news that my DSL had been hooked up, so came home and proceeded to spend about two hours trying to get it to work. Turns out that either the network card in my computer is bad, or the Ethernet interface in the modem is; thankfully it also has a USB interface, and it's working juuuust fine now ^_^
So I've been spending the evening catching up with friends and enjoying having e-mail again, and just relaxing in the new place. One of these days I'll have to put away the rest of this stuff, but it looks like that's going to be some day other than this one ;) Besides, there's no rush, right--nobody here to worry about it except me :D
