An entry with reflections!

It has been interesting for me to see how I'm settling in out here in the DC area and how long it is taking me. Over the first eighteen years of my life, my family moved three times, all before I was five years old (I think--the last one might have been in my fifth year). Since then, I have moved at least seven times (more if you count going back-and-forth to and from college each year; I'm just counting the major shift from living in one dorm building with one roommate to moving to dorm-condos with three other roommates--yeah, filling out background investigation paperwork is a royal pain for me...)

This will be my eighth move. Counting the move to DC, I will have moved five times in the past three years. I'd say I was almost a rolling stone, but they've all been in the DC metro area. It's just been a matter of trying to find a location that works with people that I like. Adams-Morgan? Neighborhood kept me on edge, and 400 square feet is just not enough for two people. Bethesda? Landlord smoked, and I decided I didn't care for living in the basement. Alexandria? Actually was working out pretty well, until they decided to kick me out so they could remodel. Woodbridge? Next best after Alexandria, but I found an opportunity for even cheaper rent and shorter commute (I harbor much loathing for the I-95 corridor) and my partner happens to live there ;)

Looking back, it's easy to see that I simply haven't found a place that really works for me yet. Maybe this will be the one (I doubt it, though, since my bedroom is rather small--but the lease is up soon, and then hopefully we'll find a bigger place that is still strategically located ^_^) Aside from the bedroom, though, I think it will be a very good fit.

It's a similar situation with my job. Yes, I worked one place for two years, but that was mainly because I had to (scholarship obligation). Now that I'm no longer under that obligation, I'm looking for that job that fulfills me and leaves me with enough energy when I am done with work to go home and have an enjoyable evening, or go out and play.

Socially... I think socially is probably where I've made the best progress in finding someplace where I feel like I can actually belong. I think I have more friends and acquaintances that I feel comfortable with now than I ever have before in my life. I'm still working out how/where I fit into that niche, but that's something that I'm expecting to take some time (and which will probably change and evolve over the years, as I do).

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next ^_^
