On today's Ask LJ we're looking to see whether anyone knows of any decent places to get free wireless access in the NoVA (especially, but not limited to, Springfield ;) region. A coffeeshop-type locale would be ideal, but I'm open to other possibilities as well ^_^

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance! ^_^

Last I heard, Old Town Alexandria established free WiFi throughout the area within a couple of blocks of King Street, from Washington to the Potomac.

Panera restaurants all have free WiFi, as does Stacey's Coffee Parlor on 709 W. Broad Street, Falls Church.

I meant from Washington Street to the (Potomac) waterfront.

See http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/09/AR2005060901770.html

It was supposedly a one-year pilot program, but I know people who have continued to get it recently. La Madeleine, 500 King Street, is a good indoor place to set up.

I believe the 2 Wegmans (one near me, one near Dulles) both have free WiFi in the cafe area. The last Caribou Coffee I was in (downtown) had WiFi, though I don't know if others do.

There's a project called "Open Park" which doesn't help cuz its for the mall area, but there's a link to other sites that will let you put in the area you're looking for and it will tell you the hotspots in your area and what are free and who charges
