Having a grand time visiting my sister and the UofC campus--it's awesome ^_^ It's family weekend here, and so we've been doing various activities. Yesterday there was a greeting and tea and then we went to a restaurant with my sister and her boyfriend and his parents. I also went to class with my sister earlier in the day (ha, let's see how badly I can mangle the order in which things happened ;) and that was a blast. I wish my math classes would have spent as much time as they do going over proofs; I'm seriously envious of the time they're spending learning how math really works (on the plus side, I think I've finally got an idea of what people are talking about when they say "triangle inequality" ;)
Today we got to go to mock classes. The three I went to were The Rhetoric of Rhetoric which was an presentation on the different strategies certain people use to try to get other people to understand their view of reality; Why President George W. Bush is Not an Ape and What This Means For the Apes which discussed some of the genetic differences between humans and apes and some implications of what this means for efforts that are being made to protect just certain species of primates; and Our Preposterous Universe which was by far my favorite class of the three and discussed what we know about the universe, during which I learned that it's not so much that the universe is expanding as that the distance between galaxies is increasing--a subtle distinction that helps several things make a lot more sense to me, but which I won't go into at this particular point because it's been a long day and I'm exhausted and going to bed in a few minutes.
One last note, I'm now reading Wicked and though I'm only about 1/3 of the way through, from what I've seen so far I highly recommend that you check it out :)
