A call for assistance
Apr. 29th, 2005 07:38 amI am very excited to be going on the retreat this weekend in pretty much all aspects save one: getting out there. Does anyone have suggestions for how to get from Alexandria to either the non-HOV part of I66 or the Dulles Toll Road without getting hopelessly entangled in traffic? I expect to be starting out sometime between 4 and 5, and I have a feeling it's going to be brutal; what I'm looking for here is a way to minimize the damage, not a way to get out completely free. (though if you know a way to get out completely free, I would LOVE to hear it!)
So far I've been able to come up with the following possibilities:
1) The George Washington Memorial Parkway to I-495 to Toll Road
2) Somehow taking smaller roads south far enough to avoid the madness of the mixing bowl and head west to, say, 123 or29 28 and take that north to I-66
3) Risking the Beltway all the way from Alexandria around to the Toll Road
4) Possibly doing something with 50, though that seems like probably the least good of the choices

Got Babel Fish?
Apr. 29th, 2005 11:42 amWho: All you hoopy froods out there
What: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Where: Regal Gallery Place Stadium
When: Sunday, 7:00 PM (want to try to get somewhat good seats ;)
Why: Do you have to ask?
Due to the fact that several people who are going on retreat this weekend also appear to have a keen interest in Hitchhiking across the galaxy, and due to the fact that I have nothing else going on Sunday, I'm thinking that would be a good time to try to go. The Regal Gallery Place Stadium (just off the Gallery Place/Chinatown metro station) is a central location that would probably be pretty reasonable for everyone to get to, and there are restaurants if people would want to get some food afterwards (or before--Hitchhikers can never quite be sure when their next meal will be) I'm hoping to go for the showing at 7:30, which should be plenty of time for people to get home and unpacked and everything and then make their way into the city. I'll try to be there by at least 7 (and I may even lean towards 6:45) and wait for people in the lobby, though it'll help if I know to keep an eye out for you, and what time you'll try to make it by.
So grab your thirty Altarian dollars, tie a towel around yourself, and stick out your Thumb; we're going for a ride!
