Too Close To Katsucon
Feb. 17th, 2006 02:46 pmSo, about 2 more hours to go at my desk before leaving for Katsucon, and I'm going stir crazy. There is stuff that I could be working on, but it is stuff that keeps getting interrupted by irritating little gotchas. Like for instance I'm working on upgrading my code to include the latest batch of changes to the baseline, and there are database modifications that go with it. My boss made a file that contains all the commands that are required to do the modifications, so I should just be able to go through, run the commands, and sail onwards. Unfortunately, my boss took advantage of some functions that do not exist in the version of the database that he wants me to be using, so the script doesn't work. To address this, I'm going to need to export the table that I am changing to a file, import it into the version of the database that he is working with, run the commands, export the table back to a file, and re-import it into my database.
Not a big deal, but really not something that I have enough patience to address right now--partially because I'm a little short on sleep, partially because I'm distracted by the aforementioned imminance of an anime convention, and largely because it feels like my day has been full of things like that. Or worse, problems that are not so easily resolvable. Example (once again with databases) trying to establish an ODBC connection to a remote Oracle database. I've spent probably an hour on that today. I shouldn't have to spend an hour to establish a connection to a database (especially considering that it still isn't working)!!!
Thus, I rant.
Fortunately, freedom shall soon be mine! *glee*
