Sliver Removal
Jul. 20th, 2007 09:23 amSometimes I get slivers; I imagine most everyone does. For me, it's not usually a terribly painful experience, but it does hurt and it is annoying. My course of action of choice is usually to try to remove such intruders as quickly as possible, even if it involves clawing them out; while this generally hurts more in the short term, the fact that the constant, low-level pain has ceased is well worth it and is usually accompanied by a great sense of relief.
I experienced a similar sense of relief after burrowing into the bowels of the Eclipse's preferences and fixing the code-auto-indentation setting to be at the same level as all of the existing code that I'm working with. Such a small change (2 spaces instead of 4) but I haven't been working with it for five minutes and I can already feel the difference; it's almost identical to that of having gotten rid of a sliver. It's weird, because I hadn't realized it had been bothering me that much, but now that I've fixed it... yeah, it was really bugging me.
