Strange But Good
Apr. 13th, 2005 09:16 pmThis week I have just been incredibly... active! I've done a bunch of stuff that I've been meaning to do for a while now: finished the chainmail spring winder and made some more chain, got Linux playing DVDs and installed a development kit that theoretically can be used to create games, went shopping last night and got some pots and dirt for my poor plants that have been living dying suffering in a gift basket that I got shortly after I moved in back in September.
I also got groceries for the first time in months. I've determined that, for me, food preparation is largely a matter of semantics. I'll preface this by saying that I love tinkering with stuff, and I am big into that whole "what happens if I do this?" mentality. So, while I am quite certain that I cannot cook at this point (and have been successfully using that as an excuse not to do so for several months now), I have discovered that I can carry out experiments with food in the kitchen. Tonight I tried an experiment called "Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo with Caesar salad" and I have to say that I am quite pleased with the outcome (and also have lunch for tomorrow and Friday--it's crazy!)
Another unusual thing about when I was getting groceries; since I've decided to start experimenting, I picked up several reagents that I have wanted to try but was unwilling to use before because I figured if I attempted to cook with them, they'd simply reinforce the fact that I can't cook. The thing that I find most fascinating about that is that it's not just with food that I've started to do that (deciding to try somthing I think I'll like). It's going through all sorts of different parts of my life. I'm playing video games more; I'm playing with chainmail again; I'm reading fantasy novels again; I'm going out and gaming with friends. I'm reading the books I order on stuff like programming, but instead of slogging through them linearly I'm going to the parts I'm interested in and then jumping back to the building blocks as I need it, and now they're fun instead of another thing that needs to be gotten through or dealt with.
All the stuff I never thought I had time for, I have time for. I just had to take it. To everyone who has been supporting me as I experiment with this: Thank You! Thank you for understanding what I have been looking for, and for encouraging me to go for it--either verbally or by example. It is incredible!
