A few weeks ago when I was visiting [livejournal.com profile] margoeve and [livejournal.com profile] elkor for a day of gaming, I had a chance to try spinning poi. While I wasn't all that good at it, it was still a lot of fun. I decided that it would be even more fun if I got some for myself to play with ^_^

So I finally got around to placing an order about a week ago, and I got them yesterday. I went a little bit overboard, though, since the site wasn't really clear about the order. The way it was phrased, I couldn't tell whether it was for one poi swing or one set of two poi swings. I decided to play it safe and ordered two. As it turns out it was referring to sets, so now I have an extra set. I figure that works out okay, though, because this way if someone sees me doing it and wants to try, I won't have to stop in order for them to play ^_^

And of course I couldn't resist trying them out last night. I ended up playing with them for about half an hour. I should have been trying to sleep, but they're just so fun (especially when I've got music like Underworld's Rez/Cowgirl performance! O:-)

So this is in addition to programming, the dulcimer, chain mail, calligraphy, your cartoon, looking for a new job and new place to live?

Don't forget gaming, Firefly munches, dating, parties/happy hours, reading, Pilates, and, of course, LiveJournaling ^_^

All things in moderation? O:)

Mountain Dulcimer :) I've only had it for a month or two, though, so while I can play several songs on it, I make no claim to be able to play them well. If you'd like, I can bring it with me next time I visit.

The Northern Virginia Firefly Meetup Group gets together (generally once a month) to hang out together and chat about Firefly, Whedon's other works, and other fantasy/sci fi stuff in general. For example, this month's event is going to involve seeing The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy this weekend, and then possibly getting food if people are interested.

Generally since I started attending they've been meeting at Sine (an Irish pub near the Pentagon City Metro station) for food and drink and geeky merriment. Fun stuff, open timing (people just sort of come and go as they please), it'd be great if you could make it sometime :)

The main page for the group is here
