Checking a Hypothesis

tcepsaJust out of curiosity, I'm going to ask an obvious question. When you see it, you'll probably go "Well, duh, of course!" Why bother with such an exercise? To help shore up a point that is often overlooked unless the question is asked point blank as I am about to ask it.

In fact, I'll even add a bonus question.
Bonus: Does being around a good friend when they are happy, even if you're in a bad mood, help cheer you up?
