Pondering an investment...
Jan. 23rd, 2007 01:07 pmI'm looking at getting a jointer for woodworking, since it's kind of critical that you have flat pieces of wood to work with and doing it by hand can be very time consuming (especially for larger projects). The two main ones I am considering are this one by Delta and this one by Jet. If you have experience with either of these (or general considerations that I should keep in mind) please let me know. I'm currently leaning slightly more towards the Delta because it is cheaper, has a bigger discount, and has more reviews, but I haven't yet made up my mind.
The other thing that I am curious about (though this would be pending the okay of the housemates as well) is whether anyone else out there would be interested in using it if I were to get it. I imagine it would get a fair amount of use just from me, but I'm also kind of having ideas of a woodworking night (or day) or something on a fairly regular basis--especially as I continue to get more of the shop set up--where folks could come by and collaborate on projects and such. To come back to the point, if there's interest on other peoples' part then I'd definitely want to go with something this size :)
