Operation: Sushi Roll has been a... moderate success. I am most definitely full now, primarily of sticky rice. Now I just have to figure out what to do with the other two slices of sushi roll, three-quarters avocado, fourteen imitation crab legs, and four and a half cups of rice... ^_^;

Lessons learned: 1) Trust your intuition; if it looks like it's too much, it probably is. 2) Both avocados and imitation crab are smaller in Japan. (at least, the way the instructions are written they must be!) 3) Mash the avocado into paste next time and use it as glue to hold the crab in place after you slice the crab into smaller pieces.

Perhaps tomorrow it will go better ^_^

Or perhaps I will attempt some sort of seafood salad...

Heh, and my Sushi books just arrived yesterday. Haven't had time to read them yet. :)

Did you get the one put out by DK press? It's lovely.

I bought Elkor a Sushi book for his birthday. And we have others.

He's done rolls before. Maybe we should get you and Dwarfrage over and do a whole sushi workshop thing? I think we have several of those roll mat things too.

That sounds terrific! Considering that so far the only "recipe" I had was one off the back of those sushihane (the seaweed wraps) packages, things can probably only go up from here. (Though in all fairness the rice part of the recipe came out great :)

I think the idea of a Sushi Fest is a good idea, but I wouldn't presume to call it a "workshop." :)

More like the three of us experiment/practice making rolls and everyone else that is invited gets to eat the feast that inevitably is made.

Yay experimenting and practice! Plus this way I could get them to eat my mistak--er, rare, never-before-seen delicacies! ^_^
