Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!
Jul. 8th, 2005 10:25 amQuotation of the morning: These things happen to other people... they don't happen at all, in fact! She's an Angel by They Might Be Giants.
Thing 1: Am currently staying with friends in Woodbridge to see how the commute would be if I lived there, and to see whether we could live together without wanting to hurt each other badly. So far things have been going very well, in my opinion.
Thing 2: This morning, the VRE was delayed by about an hour and a half due to a freight train having problems (which was probably caused by the weather but I don't know). Fortunately I'm planning on staying late anyway because some friends are picking me up to go out this evening. The train ride was a bit of an adventure, since I forgot to validate my ticket, but the conductor let me ride on the promise that I'd do it at the other end, so that worked out ok.
Thing 3: After arriving, I went to meet with my supervisor about the things that I've been working on. However, the first thing he asked me about was when my vacation starts. I told him (Saturday 16) and he looked thoughtful for a moment and said he thought that would work. Then he leaned forward, looked me square in the eye, and said, "We're having some trouble with a system down in El Paso. We need you and a coworker to head down there next week and do whatever is needed to help get them back on track. It would be better if you could stay the whole week, but I don't want to mess with your vacation and seeing your family and all, so you can take off on Friday morning." (at least I think that last part is basically what he said--my brain sort of stopped after the "We need you to go to El Paso for a week" bit.)
So yeah, that's going to cut my experimental stay in Woodbridge short by a few days, and it's becoming less and less representative of what living down there would actually be like, but that's okay. I should still have e-mail access while I'm out of town, and I'm already packed (mostly ;) So it's going to be a busy month for me! I'm basically going to be running from now until August 3. Well, that's not entirely true; I'll actually take it easy while I'm in Minnesota for a week. It's just a little bit faster-paced right now than I am used to ;) But I get to go to Texas for a week, which could be fun ^_^
