After getting home tonight I went out to Lowe's (ahh! I never realized there were so many nifty places within three miles of me!) and acquired a drill, a 3/8" oak dowel, a pair of safety goggles, a pair of gloves, a set of drill bits, and a pair of pliers. Yummy.

Upon returning home, I proceeded to open and plug in said drill and then realize that perhaps getting a "single speed" drill was a poor choice on my part. The single speed, you see, is somewhere between Very Fast and Oh My God Make It Stop! Still, I prevailed and was able to make a coil, of sorts (lots of gaps between the loops and several extremely messy parts that I just don't even want to talk about) and chop it up into rings. From there, while talking on the phone with [livejournal.com profile] judyisis I managed to make a 67-ring piece of 4-in-1 mail.

It's not much, but it's a start ^_^

Remember how I had a car? A red Geo Prizm? Well, now it's more like a red pile of twisted metal. I'm fine--a little bit rattled, but I'll be okay--but the car is definitely not...

I was going to be hanging out with my friend Ryan this evening, so I figured I would drive to the Metro station and have the car right there, ready to go when I got back. Things didn't quite work out the way I figured, though. I had pulled into the intersection to make the left turn into the parking lot for the station when the light turned yellow. There was a truck coming from the other direction at a pretty good clip, but he was a ways off and since the light was yellow I figured he would stop.

I figured wrong. )

*SIGH* So, anybody looking to sell a car?
